How to apply
The workshop is realised in collaboration with the Liceo Artistico Sabatini Menna in Salerno, directed by Dr. Ester Andreola, and is open to max. 10 students from the school.

During the workshop, all participants will have to wear surgical face masks according to protocol Covid-19.

Seating arrangements will be in respect of social distancing measures.

Description

The workshop’s main goal is to provide first bites of the processes that are the basis of 3D product design for videogames or advertisement.

The discussion’s focus will be on methods and tools to master in order to create multimedia content.

In the first part of the workshop, participants will look into the world of Computer Generated Imaginery (CGI), learn how it is used and how it has taken more and more space in our lives.

In the second part, a more practical approach will be adopted to create an actual product. Starting from the basics (polygon modelling), all the way to the finalisation of the product, namely rendering e post processing.


Day 1

What is 3D? Where and when is it applied?

  • Presentation of the used software
  • Polygon modeling: let’s create our first product!

Software used: Autodesk Maya


Day 2

Let’s paint our product!

  • What are UV?
  • Export obj. fbx.
  • Texturing basis

Software used: Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter


Day 3

How to make our creations come to life:

  • Rig basis
  • Animation basis

Software used: Autodesk Maya


Day 4

Final phase: rendering!

  • Rendering knowledge base

Teacher’s bio
nicola palma
Nicola Palma

Class ‘81, he studied in Rome, where he graduated in Cinema Methodologies and Techniques at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He then specialised in the CGI field for advertisement, documentaries and animated TV series. In 2010 he founded Immaginarti, a company involved in video production, game design and interactive digital content creation. Over the years he has collaborated with:

  • Fondazione Nazionale “Carlo Collodi” for MIP (Pinocchio’s Interactive Museum)
  • Paestum’s archaeological park for Open Paestum in Augmented Reality (app)
  • Arena Daemon for Ghostover (spot for mobile adv)
  • Association Hello Tomorrow for Global Summit (contents video wall)
  • Lynx for Acqua Lete (TV spot)
  • Gruppo Alcuni per Cuccioli (TV series)
