There is no doubt that reflection on artificial intelligence is the central theme in contemporary debate, and not only among specialists.
Philosophers, artists, men of culture, industrialists and, with some resistance, even politicians – last on the list, not by chance – are trying to design the near future based on the present.
The latest industrial revolution is changing our lives, the society in which we live and the way we perceive ourselves. In short, for the first time in its existence, humankind is confronted with a device that seems capable of reproducing actions, objects, logical structures, words and images, abilities that we thought were reserved for human intelligence.
This revolution/evolution could not fail to affect art, and within art, cinema. It is therefore worth asking ourselves what we can achieve with this unprecedented tool in order to give space to new creativity, certainly not to delegate it to a device that remains silent without our instructions and useless without us as its purpose.

Andrea Gatopoulos
Producer, director and distributor, member of the European Film Academy and alumnus of Berlinale Talents, Torino Film Lab and Locarno. Founder of Il Varco, Nouvelle Bug and Gargantua Film, he has made over 30 short films, 4 feature films and 11 books, with selections in more than 450 festivals, including Cannes, Venice and Turin. His works explore virtual realities, AI, disobedience and criticism of capitalism, with an intimate look at simple emotions. In 2024, his short film “The Eggregores” Theory’ was presented as the first film generated by artificial intelligence at the Venice Film Festival.
Pietro Lafiandra
Filmmaker, PhD in Film and Media Studies, film analyst, lecturer and artistic director of AI.motion – Italian film and audiovisual festival with artificial intelligence. Contributor to the film criticism magazine FilmTv, he teaches “cinema and artificial intelligence” at various institutes and universities. The AI short films he directed with the HARIEL collective, of which he is co-founder, were presented at the Turin Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.
Enrico Bufalini
Director of the Istituto Luce Historical Archive and Cinecittà for film distribution, documentary production and historical archive management. Under his leadership, the Istituto Luce Archive has undertaken an extensive digitisation and enhancement process, making its audiovisual and photographic heritage more accessible. He also holds managerial roles in human resources, legal and general affairs, and is Project Manager of the Creative Europe Media Desk for Italy.
