Through practical examples, personal reflections and a critical look at the industry, this masterclass with Edoardo De Angelis offers an opportunity to explore the craft of filmmaking today: creativity, awareness and adaptation. The development of platforms fuelled by audiovisual content, the exponential growth of series, both television and online, and the progressive decline in cinema audiences are accompanied by an extraordinary proliferation of images in our time. How is the role of the director changing, in this constantly changing scenario? What skills and competences, not only artistic and technical, must they develop to meet the challenges of the market and global communication?
EDOARDO DE ANGELIS
An Italian director and screenwriter, he made his name in cinema with intense and socially engaged films such as Indivisibili (2016) and Il vizio della speranza (2018). In 2020, he directed the television film Natale in casa Cupiello, the first chapter of a trilogy about family based on Eduardo De Filippo’s plays of the same name, which continues in 2021 with Non ti pago and Sabato, domenica e lunedì. Between 2021 and 2022, he directed a six-episode Netflix original television series based on Elena Ferrante’s novel La vita bugiarda degli adulti (The Lying Life of Adults). In 2023, Comandante will open the 80th Venice Film Festival. He has received numerous awards, including David di Donatello and Nastri d’Argento awards. His directing style is characterised by powerful visuals and strong roots in southern Italy.
