“Ever since I discovered Stan Brakhage’s work as a young film student, I have found his films to be a liberating and endless source of inspiration. As non-narrative films, Brakhage often refers to his works as “visual music”. As a musician, I find this idea truly inspiring for my own work. The films I will be performing with, “Visions in Meditation”, resonate strongly with me with their mix of landscapes and dreamlike unconsciousness. It is an honour for me to perform with the visual poetry of these important visions by Stan Brakhage.”

Virtuoso guitarist and singer-songwriter Steve Gunn has released one masterpiece after another in recent years. His new album Daylight Daylight will be released on 7 November by No Quarter, but for the Linea d’Ombra Festival, Steve Gunn will put aside his European tour to create a unique live soundtrack for four short films by the great master of cinema Stan Brakhage, one of the most important figures in 20th-century experimental cinema.
Steve Gunn will perform an intimate and completely new soundtrack for the films in the Visions in Meditation series, most of which were originally silent.

Steve Gunn
Guitarist and songwriter from Brooklyn, Steve Gunn is a musician who is constantly on the move, devoted both to reinterpreting American songs and to more experimental projects. After being the centrepiece of Kurt Vile’s Violators, Gunn has built a solid and successful solo career, releasing several albums on Paradise of Bachelor and, for the past few years, on Matador, in which he moves naturally between metropolitan psych-rock, rustic country-folk and refined soul-pop. He has also collaborated extensively, with pianist David Moore, percussionist John Truscinski and the great drummer Jim White.
